International Schools: Beginnings of Global Education Services

International schools, as the name denotes, are schools that support international schooling. They take on a global prospectus independent from that of the country where these schools are situated in. Sometime in 2009, during a convention in Italy, the International Association of School Librarianship came up with a list of standards for defining an international institution.

This list somehow became a benchmark in what and how such school should be measured.

Impact and Significance

Generally speaking, international schools are intended for kids who do not have their residence in the host nation or simply seen as temporary residents. Therefore, they are not forced to learn the local language while enrolled in these academic institutions. This premise makes such schools an accepted choice of education provider of those who are frequently travelling. Their most common patrons are the sons and daughters of employees of multinational corporations, international business conglomerates, foreign ambassadors, dignitaries, and expatriates.

International schools provide education primarily to scholars who are not native citizens of the host nation. However, the sons and daughters of native residents are also welcome to get an international education. These schools serve as learning grounds for those who want to be trained with the language taught at these global academic institutions and those who aspire to get credentials for employment or advanced learning outside their home country. Aside from being a venue for learning, it has also opened opportunities for would-be and current teachers to pursue international schools jobs because they are proven to be a lucrative source of income.

Beginnings

The need for international schools arose when foreign workers and/or expats found themselves moving from one country to another, having their kids on their every trip, whose need for education has to be fulfilled. It was for this reason that the first multinational schools were set up through the efforts of large nations whose interests were placed on the hosting nations. The earliest of these schools were instituted around the middle part of the nineteenth century. The large nations who took their initiative in building these schools were Japan, Switzerland, and Turkey.

Professors and Prospectus

The prospectus of international schools is in general based upon the originating region or country. Almost all of these foreign schools offer programmes intended for international learning like the IB Diploma Programme or the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Teachers all over the world vie for the much coveted international schools jobs at esteemed learning institutions either in Asia, Australia, or Europe. In order to get hired, they have to get a certification based on benchmarks mandated by their home country unless otherwise specified. Teachers who are looking to work at international schools jobs can either visit international job fairs or surf the Internet for websites of teaching agencies like AZNUK that offers countless teaching vacancies.
