Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Application

The VIT application is the most important part of the process to teach in Australia. Without registration, you will not be allowed to teach in Melbourne. We can assist you with many of the aspects of completing this step! However, it is important to recognize that it is your responsibility to complete each step according to VIT regulations and on time for your arrival.

A few key points to know ahead of time:

  • We can help! We assist many teachers each year with getting the appropriate  documents to complete this registration. If you get frustrated or stuck, let us guide you in the right direction. The paperwork is simple, you just have to know where to look!
  • We have much more detailed information on the paperwork and steps involved in working through your VIT application! Contact Karissa for assistance.
  • Give yourself an absolute minimum of 4 months to get this completed. Typically, teachers will take a month or two to gather paperwork, have it certified, and sent to VIT. It takes approximately 2 weeks to arrive at the VIT office and 6-8 weeks to process.
  • If you have a university degree and an additional teaching qualification, it is likely you will need to complete Part A of Form A found on the VIT website.
  • If you have not yet graduated, you can still start the appropriate form and send it in, along with any paperwork available to you at that time. You will need to then send the additional paperwork once you have graduated.
  • All of the documents you provide to VIT must be an original or a certified copy of the original.
  • The Victorian Insitute of Teaching has the current registration fee of $145, inclusive of a one-off fee, a yearly fee, and your NCHRC check. This should be paid online.
  • Your VIT Application Form and all supporting documents must be mailed in to the VIT office and cannot be emailed or faxed.
