Pack an Umbrella!

What have you enjoyed most about your experience teaching in Australia?
I have enjoyed the students. I absolutely love having the experience of teaching multicultural students from various countries on the opposite side of the world. They are amazing and a joy to teach!

What comments do you have about the services provided by ANZUK?

ANZUK provides quick, accurate and friendly service. Anytime I need directions to get to a school or when I just call them with any question, they are a phone call away and always readily available to help me. They are very understanding of Canadians being introduced to a new and different part of the world and they do their best to help us feel comfortable in our new surroundings.

How did you ensure success as a teacher in ANZUK’s schools?
I just went to work with a positive attitude. I have been an occasional teacher in Canada for a few years, so I took my experiences and knowledge and used them in Australian schools. I am very versatile and flexible which has helped. I also think having excellent classroom management skills has helped me become successful in many Australian schools

How would you rate the quality of ANZUK’s schools and the quantity of work you have received?
The schools that ANZUK works with are all exceptionally well organized. They are all full of friendly staff members, lovely students and there is never an unaddressed issue. As an experienced occasional teacher, I found the workload to be quite similar to what I was used to in Canada. I would follow a prepared daily plan or prepare my own daily plans (lessons, etc). With regards to the amount of work I received, I am pleased to say that I worked non-stop from the day after my ANZUK interview (Sept) until the end of Term 4 in December. The only time I worked less than 5 days a week was the last week of school.

What advice do you have for future Canadians coming to teach in Melbourne?
I would recommend coming here with an open mind and positive attitude. I am known for being very optimistic, so I think having that quality also helps. Teaching here is an amazing experience and I am so glad I was able to do it. Living in Melbourne’s CBD is an experience in itself, there is always something going on! Lastly, pack an umbrella!
