Constant Change

1.What have you enjoyed most about your experience teaching in Australia?

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching various schools all over Melbourne. I liked the constant change of scenery per say and getting the opportunity to see how different teachers run their classrooms, along with meeting a large number of students and staff.

In the past 5 months I have I learned so much here and have grown so much as a teacher.

2. What comments do you have about the services provided by ANZUK?

ANZUK always goes above and beyond. They make a conscience effort to be polite, helpful and professional well ensuring I knew exactly how to get to each school (Melway was my saviour. Make sure you buy one).

3. How did you ensure success as a teacher in ANZUK’s schools?

There’s no secret really, like anything in life you get what you put in. I always walked into a classroom and gave it my all as a teacher. Never panic if things aren’t left for you. You know more than you think so give yourself some credit. Always be confident and friendly and the rest will work itself out.

4. How would you rate the quality of ANZUK’s schools and the quantity of work you have received?

ANZUK's schools are extremely diverse depending on which region you are sent (North, East, South or West), but I think the more challenging schools (in the West), however, be open to working in any region because you will learn a lot everywhere you go. For the most part, staff and students at the school are friendly, helpful and supportive.

As for quantity of work, I was very fortunate to get 4-5 days a week (even in term four) minus the first and last few weeks of each term because work is limited at those times. If you are available for work chances are you’ll have it and if you don’t get a call be proactive and call them.

5. What advice do you have for future Canadians coming to teach in Melbourne?

Pack a sweater or three (all joking aside there really are 4 seasons in 1 hour so be prepared). Buy a Melway. Honestly, it will be one of the best purchases you make. You won’t regret it. Stay positive and take the good with the bad. Remember if you get a bad class at least you never have to go back and count your lucky stars that that’s not your class you’re stuck with. Have fun and good luck!
